NEWS: Lee Hyori’s agency Mnet Media reveals that even though their contract with Lee Hyori has ended, they will take full responsibility to the singer’s recent album plagiarism case.

Mnet released their official stand on the plagiarism case regarding composer Bahnus off Lee Hyori’s recent 4th album ‘H-Logic’ on the 21st. Mnet said, “The composer in question Bahnus has told us that the 7 songs off the album are his songs, and they were leaked out due to a guide recording 4~5 years ago. We were also told that he has been given the signed documents from the foreign singers who have claimed that the songs are plagiarised.”

Mnet also added, “But in order to confirm what we were told, we tried to personally looked up 6 of the officials of the foreign singers affect. We managed to contact 3 of them and they had replied that they think they have not given any rights of the song to Bahnus, and we also promised them we will take the moral responsibility regarding the case.”

Currently, Mnet is in negotiations with 2 of the parties through their lawyers regarding the rights to the songs. Mnet, “As compared to anything, our priority is our artiste Lee Hyori’s name which is in question due to this case.”

Mnet ended off with, “We are really sorry towards the fans who have continued to show support for Lee Hyori. We will work to reveal and disclose all the information we have gathered regarding the case. Even though our contract with Lee Hyori has ended, we will take full responsibility until the case is closed fully.”

Lee Hyori admits to plagiarism accusations

NEWS: Top Korean singer Lee Hyori has admitted that several songs from her latest album "H-Logic" were plagiarized, taking responsibility for the situation by announcing a break from all musical activities until the matter is sorted out.

The singer posted a message on her official fan cafe on Sunday morning, providing fans with a detailed explanation of the entire situation and stating that "There will be no follow-up activities unless [the plagiarism controversy] gets solved."

"There were some problems with songs by songwriter Bahnus Vaccum," wrote Lee on the website. "And after looking into the matter, we found that the songs are not the property of Bahnus Vacuum."

Lee had received a total of six songs from a producer group named Bahnus Vacuum, known as a project group consisting of seven members, who initially denied the allegations by claiming the demos had been leaked by illegal means.

The Korean pop star went onto say, "At first, I believed that the demos had been leaked and I did not suspect anything because I got the songs through my company." Lee is represented by Mnet Media, which runs a major cable music channel in Korea.

"But after our own investigation, I discovered that they were not Bahnus' songs. I will take the moral responsibility and do my best to sort out the issue," said Lee. "This is an album that I cherish very much, so I am heartbroken and I blamed myself a lot for not having been more thorough."

She ended by the message with a public apology, saying "I would like to say once again that I am sorry to everyone who were hurt by this incident."

According to the Wikipedia entry for Lee, the songs that are reportedly accused of being plagiarized are; "I'm Back" (plagiarized from Canadian indie-singer Lil Precious' track "So Insane"); "Memory" (from British Trip-Hop group Second Person's track "The Alphabet Song"); "Feel the Same" (from Canadian indie-singer Melanie Durrant's "Feel the Same"); "Swing" (of which the melody resembles Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis' "To treno fegi stis ohto"); "Bring it Back" (from aspiring Canadian girl-group Cookie Couture's "Boy Bring it Back"); and "How Did We Get" (from Jason Derulo's "How Did We", which also sampled Annie Lennox's "No More I Love You's", which on its turn is a cover from the song with the same name by The Lover Speaks).

Lee, 30, debuted in 1998 as a member of popular girl band Fin.K.L. and went solo after the group disbanded in 2002. She has released four studio albums as a solo artist, producing several hits including “10 Minutes”, “Hey Girl” and “U-Go-Girl”.

She has also branched out to acting, hosting and appearing on variety shows, most notably on the first season of SBS’ “Family Outing”.

The singer was enjoying a comeback to the music scene with "H-Logic," which was released on April 15. The title single "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" swept various K-pop music charts over the past two months.

Everyone, Hello... From Hyori

100620 01:21

It looks like it's been a while since I wrote an entry here.

After the release of my 4th album, many interrogations rose,

it was frustrating for me and

you must have been curious about these issues at some point .

I've been asking myself whether I should tell you all of it or not,

there were things to take into consideration, and after I figured it out,

time has passed... and it took me some time to talk to you.

It must have been frustrating for you as well, I'm truly sorry about that...

When I was making the album, in the beginning, I received songs

from Bahnus. When we released it, plagiarism issues were raised,

there was something wrong.

I, too, believed everything he told me, there was no way we could know.

The company first received the songs from him, under his name, and

we didn't suspect anything.

But we kept moving forward, and words risen again, suspicion,

artists saying that

he wasn't the original composer of the songs, that he stole them and

claimed these were his.

Finding the original producers of the songs was hard and it took some

time to make sure everything we heard was the truth. We investigated

about him and we found out that the songs were not his.

We know for sure that 2 songs out of the 6 songs that we recorded

are not his, we already contacted the original composers.

About the remaining songs, we couldn't find the original creators but the

company is still looking into it and will take care of this matter.

We will do what we have to and put that behind us, we will take moral

responsibility.

I wanted to release the album soon, it took me a long time to make it

as I wanted to, and I also wanted to promote it

for a long period, until these issues are solved, I can't do that anymore.

The truth is that, for these problems to be solved, a long time is needed.

These matters take time to be put behind.

It's unfortunate but it appears that it will be impossible for me

to lead successful album activities for now.

I'm truly sorry for you who expected more from me and waited for

something else...

I've always been passionate when recording songs for my albums, although

I went through a lot and experienced headaches.

My heart aches, because I couldn't promise you something perfect, I've

been constantly blaming myself.

But instead of being helpless, I feel that it is my responsibility to step up

and to take care of this. It's my responsibilty to handle anything I do well.

For putting you all through this with me, I apologize, once again to all of you.

I want to always show you the best of me.

I'll be working even harder to show you the best of me.

I will show you more, the best.
